Everyone on the internet is talking about Google Penguin 4.0 Update and how it can affect your SEO.
Bloggers and website owners are more concerned about losing their SERP rankings.
It means that the traditional ways of SEO (that you have been following till now) are not going to work for you the same way.
And you need to change your SEO techniques to save yourself from losing existing SERP rankings.
In today’s post, I will share 13 SEO Factors that are proven to work in 2016.
Edit: Although this post is targeted towards SEO 2016, these factors still contribute to major rankings and if you can take care of these, you’d be good to go even after 10 years.
This infographic is designed and owned by Hale Associations, and I am just sharing it with my readers with proper credits.
Not every minute detail can be added in Infographic. So, let’s now discuss the above SEO Factors in detail with relevant examples and guides.
Also, I will try to add my two cents wherever applicable.
Backlinks are here to stay, and they are still the biggest and most important SEO factor.
Getting high-quality backlinks can easily boost your site rankings and move your articles up in the search results.
However, relevancy should be taken care. Only backlinks from relevant and high PR pages are considered worthwhile.
Here are 200+ High PR DoFollow Forums to build high-quality backlinks (some of them are dead).
SEO Factor 2 – Click Through Rate
Click Through Rate (CTR) is a major SEO factor. High CTR gives your site more authority, and it gives a stronger sense of user engagement.
CTR can be increased by proper use of On-Page SEO.
Having good title, URL, ALT tags, keyword placement are some of the On-Page SEO Factors.
Here are 21 On-Page SEO Techniques you can apply and get good results.
SEO Factor 3 – Relevant Linking
As mentioned in the first point, relevant backlink sources are important for SEO. Backlinks from few authority sources are far better and valuable than backlinks from nonrelevant sites.
Also, the sites you link to your article should be relevant.
Semrush (Free 14-Day Trial) & Ahrefs.com are two widely used tool to research keyword phrases your competitors are using.
When people talk about you and share your articles on different social media channels, then it means that your articles are helpful & worth reading.
Social Media sharing has become an import part of SEO, and if you can make your articles go viral on social media, then there are high chances that your ranking will boost to page one.
Due to this fact, everyone has started growing social media following and spend few extra time and money on it.
SEO Factor 5 – Up to Date Articles
In blogging, there’s a term called evergreen articles. This type of articles are a sure shot success and bound to rank better than seasonal articles.
However, not every kind of article is evergreen, and it has to be updated from time to time.
By doing so, you can make your articles more demanding, helpful, and with up to date information.
According to research, the posts which are regularly updated with new contents are ranking better than those who are left non-updated for a long time.
Google loves updated article as they serve better purposes and is more helpful for readers.
If you are not updating your articles, then it’s high time you should start doing it.
Just for the records, I have shared ten unusual ways you can recycle your old blog posts and get more traffic.
SEO Factor 6 – Speed
If I were the designer of the Infographic, then this factor would have been on number one.
Your site speed plays an invaluable role in SEO. Faster loading sites are favored by search engine bots as no one likes to wait for a site to load for few minutes.
To be more concise, if your site isn’t loading in 3 seconds, people will click the close button. I know it’s cruel, but people are losing patience day by day.
If you want your site to rank better and your visitors to read it, you need to work on speeding up your site.
Moving to a managed or dedicated web hosting provider, deleting unwanted plugins, and optimizing bigger images are some ways to improve the loading time.

SEO Factor 7 – One Keyword One Page
You may have seen some bloggers writing twenty articles based on the same keyword and complaining that they aren’t ranking well.
But the truth is, it no longer works.
You should target only one main keyword per page and add as much value as possible.
And if there’s a need for a new article then try to optimize it for some related keyword.
You can use Semrush to find related keywords with low competition & good monthly search amount.
SEO Factor 8 – User Engagement
Just like click through rate, user engagement is a key to SEO as well as your online business.
When people engage with your articles i.e. Comment, share, buy, and subscribe then it leaves a positive footprint for web crawlers.
If people are engaging that means your article is excellent and deserve to be on the first page of Google.
User engagement can be accessed by asking users to comment and share your articles.
Placing sharing buttons below article and floating sharing buttons can make this job easier for you.
Similarly, having multiple subscriber boxes can also be helpful in lead capturing.
SEO Factor 9 – Content (The King)
All hail to the King!
Content is no wonder still the king of SEO, and it will always be.
Unique, informative, longer and engaging content is what it takes your blog to rank better in search pages.
There’s a reason why I do additional research and write 1000+ word articles on my site.
They perform better, provide more value, and are more likely to be shared. All of which is loved by Google.
Writing and publishing articles daily is not working in SEO 2016 but writing longer articles regularly does.
So next time you are writing a 400-word article, stop yourself and try to add more words and content to it.
SEO Factor 10 – Blogger Friends
Well, not nearly sure whether it work as an SEO factor or promotion factors.
But, one thing I’m sure about making blogger friend is that it can help your site grow quick.
You need to have blogger friends who are sharing your articles to their followers, helping with their experiences and leading you to be a better blogger.
Commenting on other blogs, social media channels, and emails are the easiest ways to make blogger friends.
Want to be my blogger friend? Just drop a comment, and I would love to connect with you.
SEO Factor 11 – Keyword Domain
So, here I am clearing all the fuzz around keyword specific domain names.
They are goldmines and are still working very actively in SEO.
If you can manage to buy a keyword Specific domain name, then consider giving yourself a Pizza party.
You will have better chances of ranking on Google.
FlameDomain is a great tool to find brandable domain names with the keyword.
SEO Factor 12 – Traffic
Oh boy! Traffic. Every blogger’s dream and without it, you are no more than a diary writer. If there is no one reading your blog then how can you even rank in search results?
Getting consistent traffic is still a major SEO factor and if you are getting thousands of unique visitors daily then your chances of ranking is higher than other websites.
Other than SEO, you can use Social Media, Advertising, and Forums to drive traffic to your site.
SEO Factor 13 – Anchor Text Diversity
The last working SEO factor of 2016 is Anchor Text Diversity.
Anchor text is nothing but the text you use to link to other websites.
For example, Click Here to get web hosting for $0.01.
Here “Click Here” is the anchor text I used to link to Interserver Web Hosting.
However, words like ‘click here’ do not give a clear indication of what site I’m linking and thus are less valuable.
On the flip side, if I’m linking one of my previous articles using a related keyword then it will be seen as a good link and its value increases.
Having anchor text diversity can help your articles move from page two to page one.
My Two Cents
Writing for SEO is important but do not forget about your readers. Writing for search engine bots may rank your articles, but if they are not helpful and engaging for your readers, then it’s of no use.
Homework for You –
Try to apply these SEO factors for 30 days and see whether your site is ranking better or not.
